#235 wooden mailart
Sunday, May 27, 2012
We're making an African garden in a quadrangle of a school. the school has a deep relationship with a school in Uganda - teachers and a few students have visited over the past four years. I'm coordinating the quad project and am doing a day or two making signage and bird art with young people. It's a highschool. I found out that the group I am working with next week is very, very low ability of just yr 8 boys and the quad is a highly visible space. I have scaled back the project and am opting for a collage approach with a bit of magic... I have coated lots of pieces of paper with glue, have cut up some marine ply and have collected images of West African birds. I have photos of the landscape and lots of magazines to cut letters from and will bring in my photocopier so we can make image transfers onto the wood, paint the landscape and add some text. When I've shown the kids my demo I will post it somewhere not too far away (85 grams!).
#234 Euro Vixen
Sunday, May 27, 2012
For those of you in Europe, you will know about Eurovision. It is not an enitrely enjoyable evening where the devoted watch 25 countries vie for the Eurovision song title. Last night I was watching while making my mailart. Foxes still on the brain (there was one in our field earlier in the week that allowed us to almost walk up to it)! I was also experimenting with the idea of drawing animal toys from different angles as a way to work with children. The sun was setting. No one was voting for England and that word invasion sprung from my musical past.
190 - For Queen and Country
Sunday, May 27, 2012This one was intended to be purely in Black and White as it comes from the collected edition of Queen and Country, by Greg Rucka. At the moment I'm really trying to use more colour, especially textured colour as it thrills me when Elena colours my pieces, but this picture caught my eye and I couldn't let it go, so I inked it myself
189 (Andy) 110 (Elena) - Leopard

Coloured in Promarker flex (now Elenas favourite colouring tool) with lines by me
