Friday, December 31, 2010A while back Keira Pannell suggested I try to expand my sticker technique to do something with lines.
I have to be honest, I wasn't quite sure what she meant, but I started this piece on the 23rd with the intention of cutting lines away from the sticker. The intention was purely to cut out Elenas outline then have radiating lines. However, I got a little carried away and decided to add wings to her with outline and also use the bridge in the background.
I finished this piece on Christmas day, stuffed to the eyeballs with duck, Elena now in possession of a pair of wings and everything.
I'm not sure if I quite done what Keira was suggesting, but I don't mind. It worked out alright.
#31 - How Fast
Friday, December 31, 2010My daughter got married on skis. It was the wedding she dreamed about since she was a little girl. She skied down the mountain with her dad, met her fiance and guests at the bottom where we had an outdoor ceremony, in the snow. Later we all gathered for a lovely dinner in the ski lodge. It was a small wedding and quite beautiful. My other daughter got married in a big fairytale wedding a few years earlier. And that was quite beautiful, too. I've had the best of both worlds.
As much as I love sending mail, I find sending out birthday and anniversary cards very difficult. Even letters to my family are harder for me to write than to complete strangers. This year I resolve to end that and this card, which is going to Melanie and Nick for their first anniversary, is the first step toward that resolve. I will send a card to recognize every celebration in my family, and I will write to my family, just out-of-the-blue letters.
25/365 - New Years Joey
Friday, December 31, 2010This postcard is for my friend Val and features Joey.
Who is Joey?? Asian superstar or ingenue? Sadly, I do not know. I bought a set of Joey postcards and I have no idea who she is, only that she exudes pertness and pluck. The picture of her I used for this card is the only one of her looking subdued so I didn't feel bad about cutting it out of the postcard, which on the whole are so wacky that they stand on their own!
WTF?! - (#31)
Friday, December 31, 2010#30 - No Amount of Whiskey
Thursday, December 30, 2010No amount of whiskey no amount of wine,
No no no no no nothing else will do,
I've gotta have you." - The Weepies, Gotta Have You
I couldn't get the above lyrics out of my head yesterday, and it's still bouncing around in there.
This is going to Austin James, who sent me this wonderful card when I first joined IUOMA last month. I had sent him this card, confessing that I can't relate to people through music, before receiving his music-related card that actually does relate to my life.
