#91 the past is always there in the background

Saturday, December 31, 2011

I received a wonderful book of Nagy's visual poetry alphabet from Jeni.  We hadn't talked about my mailart obsession so opening such a beautiful and appropriate present was especially fantastic. When a 'C' appeared on the front of this card the rest followed on the other side.

# 90 what happened after I slipped in the rain

Friday, December 30, 2011
An empty house (boo hoo) with so much stuff to move to make the jigsaw fit again. At dusk finally time for mailart but all was in the stuff in the studio and the wood burner not lit, stuff tidied away for the previous day's birthday party, my mum in the kitchen so I decided to carry a bit of mailart stuff back to the house. Wouldn't you know it... hail, slick surfaces and the next thing I knew I was flat on my back, wet and freezing.

#89 what happened on the 28th

Friday, December 30, 2011

I turned 51 on the 28th. It was a memorable birthday because so many people were with me and there was so much good cheer.  Usually the timing isn't quite so good! Sent to Nancy.

mailart365-Day 204, originally uploaded by FarStarr.

Created for a swapbot swap of RED mailart.

I started with an old book cover and added an EKG tracing, vintage labels, a bit from an old math book, and fish from a discarded tropical fish guide.

mailart365-Day 203 front, originally uploaded by FarStarr.

Via Flickr:
This only took 24 hours to go from coast to coast!

I covered a regular old vanilla (yes, I know it's manilla) envelope with old book pages and I handpainted the fish!!
I am so impressed with myself! :)

mailart365-Day 201,202

Friday, December 30, 2011

mailart365-Day 201,202, originally uploaded by FarStarr.

Via Flickr:
Created for my layers of flavor swap in the handmade postcard club on swapbot.

The idea was to start with a piece of cardboard, cover it papers, then do at least 3 more layers of stamping, painting, etc. This one ended up with 8 layers.

mailart365-Day 200 Counting Crows

Friday, December 30, 2011

Via Flickr:
Created for the Cut and Paste group on Swapbot. The theme was numbers.

I had this card all finished and sitting on the stairs to take upstairs to scan when my daughter said "Mom, are you done with this one?" "Why", I said. "Because 36 divided by 4 is not 8!". Blonde moment...I added a crow. That's why she's in AP Calculus....

Old math book page of logarithms, flashcard, very secure crows..

28 Corgi Feet Angie Cope

Wednesday, December 28, 2011
Diane Keys is inspiring a whole movement of trash artists - trashpo - making visual poetry with trash. At the trashpo group on IUOMA Lisa Iversen sent Diane a garland made from crunched up trash and that inspired a whole "line" of ornaments. The corgi fee Snooky is printed on trash. I was going to trash this card kit I had because I didn't know what to do with it. Seeing if from a new perspective (trash vs. a new kit) gave me inspiration to ... make cards. I made about 30 of these so ... that's my theme for a few weeks here now.

#88 Bonnard's objects

Tuesday, December 27, 2011
Trying to identify the key characteristics of Bonnard's work.  Interesting to begin at an analytical place but challenging to say something that feels spontaneous. In the next version will consider how to direct the eye around the words.  This is meant to be visual poetry...

a habit of clinging to the same subjects, a window, red fruit,  chairs and a table, checked cloth on corners

or should it be: on corners checked cloth?

#87 Bonnard moment

Monday, December 26, 2011
We made mailart in the studio today! Patrick got the wood burner going and brought the table from the field - two of the three generations thinking and making visually... fabulous!  I received a terrific history/theory of visual poetry and had time to read about two pages but it got me thinking about the collaborative book project.  Apparently Bonnard paintings are about remembering a moment.

#86 Festive work

Sunday, December 25, 2011
Lots of people; lots of cooking, many hands - light work. The pear and almond tart and pecan pie are cooking.  Potatoes, veg mash, beef, brussel sprouts in oven or on deck.  Merry Christmas all!

#85 Bald truth

Sunday, December 25, 2011
Some people like a bald head, others aren't so comfortable with a smooth scalp.  A conversation last night inspired a muse on baldness.  Personally I don't notice baldness, and it certainly isn't something unattractive in my eyes... I found the head on the right on a tag I took off a present.
