Oh the Chinese ephemera....it'll be coming out for a long time. This picture of the emperor is from the pamphlet gotten at the Beijing Ancient Observatory, one of the oldest observatories in the world.

Oh man. The print in this piece is from a pamphlet handed out by Christian evangelicals at the Incheon to Tianjin ferry terminal. Christianity is crushing out the native Buddhism in Korea and it would be the same in China if the state was friendly to religion at all. The guy who handed me this was finding each Chinese speaker waiting for the ferry because he can't hand them out in China. I guess he thought I could read Chinese. I took it for it's aesthetic value. When I use it I try to rip it in strips so that if a Chinese speaker sees it they wont think I'm trying to convert them.

Funnily, Emperor Kang Xi was one of the first to welcome the Jesuits into China.
