24 - Gotham Central Batman

Monday, February 23, 2015
Just finished re-reading Gotham Central book 1. What a combination of writers and artists! Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka are titans on their own, having transformed noir comics pretty much singlehandedly in the last twenty years, so having them tag team on a Batman police procedural title was a dream come true. Even years after the series wrapped up, this series is still pure pleasure to read

The art, by Michael Lark, perfectly suits the tone of the series. Brubaker works so well with Lark.

I am quite proud of this piece. It came together almost effortlessly and provided an opportunity to honor and educate myself and others. One of my favorite pieces EVER.

Who needs flowers? When a bunch of Andy Warhol style rotting bananas will do?
I splattered the envelope with miniatures of my previous artwork.

23 - Starbucks return to sender

Sunday, February 22, 2015

I'm going through a Biro phase at the moment and am burning through the ball point pens. I particularly like finding pens on the floor. It's very odd that I own lots of art materials and find the cheapest thing I can get my hands on is my weapon of choice. The only problem with them is that they take AGES to do fill-in colour, so this took me more than an hour to just colour in

22 - Grendel

Sunday, February 22, 2015

I've just finished reading Grendel Omnibus 2, written by Matt Wagner and illustrated by Wagner and Tim Sale and this piece is inspired by that. I haven't really spent any time reading Grendel and only just realised that Grendel has been running for nearly 30 years. I didn't really enjoy the book as I thought the storytelling was erratic and inconsistent. This came as a surprise, because I've just been reading Matt Wagner's run on Madame Xanadu and his storyboarding and dialogue was outstanding.

This is in the subseries of Return to sender envelopes, biro drawings, and books that I've read.

Still in the Chinese New Year theme:
Envelope made from Asian newspaper, Stamps and stickers.

The Chinese New Years continues for several weeks, so this could be a recurring theme.

Do you like my Mail HEART 365 logo?

365-2 #2 Travel Japan

Friday, February 20, 2015
This is a handmade postcard for a swap-bot swap. I used a page from a Children's Atlas, then adorned it with footsteps showing a route. The smiley character comes from an Asian food advertisement.

There is a heart on the address side.

365-2 #1 Sno Caps

Thursday, February 19, 2015
We have had over 7 feet of snow here in the last 3 weeks. People can't even SEE their cars, much less drive them. The MBTA is slow, or closed, due to shortage of maintenance dollars. So, in case of a Snow Emergency, I'm mailing Ciara a box of Sno-Caps.

Naked Mail + Chocolate = Instant relief and smiles.

OK. I'll put a heart on it too.  Mail heART 365-2 #1.

Here we go again.

#365 The End... of the beginning

Tuesday, February 17, 2015
Here is the Grand Finale of MailArt 365!

It is my very first amigurumi crochet heart, suspended in a bottle, with some chocolates, and mailed to my son.

On December 8, 2010, I mailed number 1 ("I HAD SHOES") to my daughter. That is 1531 days ago. Which means one mailing every 4.2 days (more or less). Which, for me, isn't bad. Considering work, doldrums, procrastination, vague loss of motivations, clutter, and storms, that isn't too bad at all.

So, the circle is complete. (My kids have been frequent recipients of other items in the 365 lineage,  with good spirits and much laughter and fol-de-rol.)

Here are the pictures.

Oh yes. I joined the 5089 group. Whatever that's about. I like the nifty logo.

Aloha from EARTH.

What's next? More mailart!! Maybe another 4 year 365. I'm thinking of Mail heART 365, all hearts. But then, I'm not known for consistency. Stay tuned. Watch. And see.

229/365 DELIVERY: Wrong Way Down The Highway

Sunday, February 15, 2015
This piece was sent to me with the trunk already stamped on the card. I was to build a scene around it. Not my proudest moment, this. The perspective is all wrong, double divider line was drawn on the wrong side of the truck... I FINALLY went with it anyway. This person has been waiting about six months to get it back. :/

#362 Happy VALentine's Day

Saturday, February 14, 2015

Made with little origami modules, typically called 3D Origami. Probably about 100 pieces of each color were used.

I mounted it on mat board that I got for free from a framing shop (they give me scraps). It is probably about 8 inches square. I mailed it off to VAL.

21a - Charlotte Dujardin, Olympic gold

Thursday, February 12, 2015

I am really getting into this series. Still can't believe that we've sold so many of these stamps from the 2012 Olympics, but sales seem to be picking up. This one is of Charlotte Dujardin.

Earlier this week, we sent out 5 sets of stamps with a Thank You note and received the most wonderful feedback on our Postcards from us site, which made it all worthwhile.

I'm probably going to make some more of these biro, watercolour and collage pieces for myself. I rather like the medium
