182-365 A Thread

There's a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn't change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can't get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time's unfolding.
You don't ever let go of the thread.

-William Stafford

I saw this picture of a print someone did of the lovely William Stafford poem "The way it is" in a magazine and I knew just the piece of thin red yarn I had to sew through paper with it.

I have sewn onto mailart before but it was always pulled pretty tight or done with a sewing machine but, with this one I wanted to leave it loose and loopy because I feel it suits the mood better. I hope it makes it to Massachusetts unscathed.

What a great piece, nice poem and I always like the use of textiles in mail art.
