12 - Not autumn not spring

12 - Not autumn not spring, originally uploaded by andytgeezer.

I really miss the warmth of summer and spring seems an awful long way away too, so I wanted a bit of both in this.

This is the first time I've tried watercolour pencils and couldn't really figure out how to get colours to merge with each other. After sampling this, I've decided to go and take art classes in January, so you may start seeing some drawing out of me in the new year

This is really nice, & I'm looking forward to hearing more about your art classes.

Thanks Paula - it is something I feel I really want to do after spending so long doing arty things and talking to artists! We were in the art shop today and I felt a little frustrated that there were so many lotions and potions I knew so little about! I can't wait to start using them. Mailart has made me much more confident about my abilities and I think that I can finally pick up one of those paintbrush things and feel like I have a chance of creating something. I can't wait!

Andy, I think you and I are on the same wavelength. I also am looking into a drawing class. I am an art school drop out, I studied only 3D though. I was a potter and a sculptor with zeal but when it came to drawing I would get SO stressed out and feel like such a loser. It's one of the many reasons I didn't pursue an art degree and now at the age of 40 I'm ready to tackle the drawing demon. I look forward to talking to you more about this as the year progresses.

JJ thank you so much for commenting on this - sometimes it feels like I'm alone in this irrational fear of paintbrushes and art. It seems that it's ok to say that you never understood maths and science, but you rarely hear people say that art terrified them. I'm really surprised to hear that drawing stressed you when you can sculpt and things, but then people always think it's odd that I don't like biology and chemistry when I teach physics. I suppose they are totally different things.

I can't wait to learn to draw properly. Sometimes I sit down with a pencil and copy pics from books (as in Usagi Attacks and I love the whole process. But ask me to draw anything myself and I get scared and tense. So here's hoping that we can battle the drawing demon together on different sides of the globe. I'd be happy to see your stuff as it starts to materialise too.
