Mailart 365 has moved

The latest facebook profile picture is Elena's best friend Alina. She's a big fan of dolphins. This is drawn on a Sharpie envelope for an eBay customer and I've used Flexmarkers for the colouring. Annabel spotted her profile pic

Lots of interest from my old schoolmates on the last one, so I thought I'd draw another schoolfriend's profile pic. I am still in touch with Annabel these days and she runs a very worthy venture over at http://safeschoolbexley.co.uk/. Sam spotted his profile pic

I went to school with this guy and he's had a T-shirt printed with his face on it stylized. A quick and easy drawing for an eBay envelope. Mim spotted hers (as did a whole load of the mailart community!)

365er Mim needs no introduction surely. Love her profile pic, even I can draw it!

Japanese mailartist Reiji Ooba is a huge Beatles fan and this is his John Lennon on a Sharpies pack. Let's see if he notices that I've drawn his facebook profile picture... Scott didn't notice his profile pic.

Vali didn't notice his profile pic, so I moved on to the next one. This one is the facebook profile pic of Scott "Positively Postal" who completed his mailart 365 in one year. I decided to play around with the format a little, including the profile pic and the cover and the like badge rubber stamp for a laugh

I think I drew this in a coffee shop. Elena is my ultimate challenge. I am always hugely self-critical (and she's also critical of me on top of that just for good measure) so I find it hard to make an image I'm ever happy with. I seem to be able to draw other people satisfactorily but not her. Perhaps I find I just can't simplify her at all. I'm not sure. I hope I get better at it one day. Practice Practice Practice

Made in July while waiting for the boat to take us from the London Eye to my brothers new house in Woolwich. There is a boat service that drops us right outside his place and it leaves from some of the coolest places in town, including here and the Tower of London. Isn't that cool!

This is my latest drawing of a Facebook friends profile photo. It's a picture of my wife's brother Valentin, or Vali for short. Lets see if he notices it before I post my next one. Just to keep score, that last one of Jennifer was noticed before this one was posted.

450 feels like a significant number

I was looking for inspiration for my envelopes when I decided to post my last piece on Facebook. My friend Tarik commented on it, being a Bruce Lee fan, so I thought I'd draw his profile pic next, just to surprise him. I think I'll start drawing a series of my friends facebook pics and banners just to see if anyone spots their work in mine...

Inspired by a Ron Mueck sculpture of the same name

No it's not mistakenly upside down, I uploaded it this way as it's the way I drew it.

When I started to draw my first pieces at the start of 365, Mim mentioned that I should try drawing upside down. Not drawing standing on my head you silly billy. Turning the thing I'm drawing upside down. This way, my brain wouldn't analyse everything and I'd just draw what I saw.

Elena was on my lap in the park one day, and appeared upside down to me. I've always had trouble drawing Elena as my brain always fills in the details. So I drew her upside down and was quite pleased with the result. When I showed her it upside down, she was pretty happy with it too.

But when we turned it the right way up we were both not that happy with it.

So I've uploaded it upside down so nobody undergoes the same disappointment that we did.

The democracy book I'm reading has a very American slant. However, it does cover the British Utilitarians, starting of course with Jeremy Bentham, whose body (its now a replica actually as his real body wasn't embalmed properly) in Senate House in the university of London. I should pay him a visit one day

I'm presently reading Democracy for Beginners to try and understand more about the society we live in and it is full of lovely portraits of the major political philosophers, who I have been drawing a lot of recently. Bruce's work was admired by Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson.

This image of the Hulk is printed on my mug at work that I use to drink copious amounts of Earl Grey tea every day. I spend way too long looking at it, so it made sense to draw it. I'm leaving my job soon and I think I'll probably leave this mug behind. It was bought in a charity shop and is now so badly stained with tannins that everything I drink from it tastes like Earl Grey

Really happy with this piece, which was a front cover of an issue of Grendel. It gave me a bit of understanding about exagerated perspective
