Mailart 365 has moved

I am not making light of the violence that engulfs the world, but last night, when I was futzing in the art room, I picked up the background image and the idea of using swords as kabob sticks made me smile. I am war-weary and needed that smile. Seems like the only way we know how to bring change is by violence.

Setting aside my futzing, I sat down and cut out some peace symbols. I had had one wine too many, so the peace sign is missing a "leg" ... I pretty much cut out Mercedes symbols. But, I didn't realize that until this morning. Not sure if I should fix it, or go with the mistake.

I like corn chowder. In fact, I love corn chowder. I don't like high-fructose corn syrup, though. Too much of the US corn crop is made into high-fructose corn syrup, and those who run the industrial food complex here are trying to be sneaky and change the name to "corn sugar." Shit by any other name is still shit.

Once upon a time farm subsidies helped the small family farm. That isn't the case anymore. Subsidies help too many big corporations who really don't need any more help peddling their poison.

I love lunch. It is my favorite meal and I like to eat it in style. I will never work a job that requires me to eat my lunch at my desk. I think my lunch ethos is healthy and I wish I could get more people to do the same.

First Lady Michelle Obama likes lunch, too. She has been working hard to get better lunches into schools in the US. In December a law called Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids was signed that is to help schools provide better lunches for all children. The First Lady had a lot to do with getting that law in place. I don't know how well it will work ... there are certainly a lot of naysayers and people who want to resist just because they can resist ... but I can only hope this is the start of more lunch love.

This Lunch Lady serves up the sort of lunch I enjoy ... one with flourish and style. I don't imagine school lunch ladies should wear ball gowns and ouchy shoes, but I would love to see school lunch become more of an occasion.

This card is in recognition of Miss Massachusetts, who, when she introduced herself at the Miss American pageant last week, said she is "From the home of the Tea Party when it was still about TEA!" For those not living in the US, there is a political movement called The Tea Party movement that has steeped into almost every waking moment of our lives. It took its name from the famous Boston Tea Party, which was an 18th century political protest against unjust taxes. I hate that the Tea Party movement usurped an actual act of independence from tyranny. I've no idea what Miss Massachusetts' political leanings are, but I suspect she isn't a fan of the Tea Party movement either.

I am sending this up to MA, to a new-ish penfriend I haven't heard from since November. And I'm using this postage se-tenant to send it. It is vintage, 1976, I think, and I love having vintage postage that matches the card in some way.
