Mailart 365 has moved

We dug up the carrots and these were about the best.  They have sat around on the table, too gross to prepare.  I know I shouldn't discriminate, but would you eat these wonky vegetables?

Fun to look through Hudson's eyes and to see how different I imagine the view that he might hanker for while thoroughly enjoying himself (and working his socks off) at Uni, from his sisters'.

Went to the fancy pub tonight and brought my mailart stuff along.  A woman at the bar couldn't help herself from asking what I was drawing.  There was that awkward conversation where I tried to explain everything all at once.  Later these characters from Patrick's 20+ year old saved school magazine that finally found its way into the recycling.  B my....

Changing weather.  Changing house - empty nest - Pulled a magazine out of recycling and noticed the winter tree. NOT READY for winter but imagined seasons.  Had found the word 'pausa' on the tag of a tea towel I'd bought and then the Rolling Stones' lyrics came into my head. Guido's trees, Stripygoose's 5 emotions, one moment in my life.

Found some asemic writing on the wall in Edinburgh, although could this say stripy goose? Obviously there is a nod to Bris Chris here too.

Reading about  Joseph Fiore early, I collected the shapes I could see (after breakfast) onto the back of a bit of recycled card.  Fiore's third period concerned pictographs. I kept thinking about the Matisse that was opened nearby.

I've been thinking of my favourite spots .  Not the best places with everything just right so much as the places that are not so special but that are the things I'd find hard not to see again.

Not so blind because I actually had my contact lenses in by the time I drew today. I wrote a little blog post about Cheryl Penn's supposed to be automatic writing.  The expressive drawing book talks about automatic painting and drawing.  Taking all that together I played, throwing in a bit of what I imagine holism is.

This time I did a blind drawing and added something imaginary to it and then used less naturalistic colour which I heightened in photoshop.

Did two in this breakfast series.  Jennifer Bartlett did two often and I like a second look at the same subject so will try to do that too.

I've lost my glasses so first thing, when I get up, walk the dog, have my tea, draw a bit I can't see. I'm dipping into Jennifer Bartlett's book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Jennifer-Bartlett-Garden-John-Russell/dp/0810907097 - something I do quite often and reading the expressive drawing book I mentioned in an earlier post.  I did a bit of blind drawing, scanned the B & W and then worked back into it.

I've always thought I would be able to use the Summer Exhibition list of works as a stimulus for poetry or visual stuff.  Today was a Guido day in that I bought a book in terrible disrepair for 50P that has absolutely beautiful etchings that I know Guido would love, so I guess I'm not surprised by today's result.

Before I started today's Mail art I was looking for some Minxus Lynxus inspiration - I want to send something new that way so looked at random pages in the list book.  I found some words that seemed relevant and then just didn't think anymore.  The result was very definately Guido.  One of the words on the page was Humument.  Don't know if you know Tom Phillips' work but I am a big fan: http://gallery.humument.com/page001-birthday ?

Did a bit of Plein air painting.  Took an abstract part of what I did and printed it on glossy paper and looked for what it might be.  I recognised the pond and then these ducks appeared.

In the garage, next to the digging tools is a notice board that I once used in my office.  I pinned drawings and scans so that while I worked I would remember who I was and what I do.  The sun came in my window and bleached the images and one day I guess I moved the notice board and eventually it ended where it is now with all the faded drawings and the rusty pins.  I noticed this image was barely there so decided to use it in some way later.  I am in love with clear gesso at the moment.  It's the texture and the transparency and that I can draw and write over it in alternative ways
