#222 Extremely tenuous

Tuesday, May 15, 2012
I grew up spending holidays in a place called Cranberry Island.  My friend Judith is a ceramicist and she gave me one of her postcards last week.  It reminded me of the pyramids.  On this island in Maine there are lots of runners.  The island is only two miles long... I used to run 8 miles regularly but Gary would run 20.  This summer it's the 6th annual Great Cranberry Island 50K Ultra marathon (organised by Gary).  That's right, they run up and down the island lots of times. Lauren and I rode bikes alongside Gary on his first marathon. Lauren and Ken went to the pyramids and visited me in Kenya when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer where there were views like this.

#167 Birdsong 2

Saturday, March 17, 2012
Thinking of De Villo Sloan's Vispo book pages as I created the framed collage trial for the year 9 group.  The photo I altered is a cropped version of the original. the WW1 letters are a nod to De Villo. I am attempting to create my own visual poetry in response to Birdsong. The poppy appeared because the collaged map had a line that reminded me of a poppy's edge.

#140 out of Order alphabet of English things 'M'

Friday, February 17, 2012
Before I had been to England or knew anyone English i knew about marmalade and I knew it was bitter and that I wasn't a big fan.  When I adopted England as my home I tried (unsucessfully) to like it. My husband and one of my children love it.  I am always perplexed at the grocery store about whether to get the thin or thick cut.

Out of order alphabet of English things 'S'

Friday, February 10, 2012
I remember NY street parties in the 70s with ethnic food and parades of people.  The English version, at least in the villages around us, is something different.  And I have learned to bake a respectable sponge.

#93 RE: On Modern Time

Monday, January 02, 2012
I read a philosophical opinion in the New York Times today called 'On Modern Time' http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/01/01/on-modern-time/  'Aesthetic experience... pulls us beyond our normal subjection to temporal sequentiality... lost' I think I need a bit of that at the start of 2012!
