Fi's #9: abcd+1234567

Monday, December 13, 2010

I love the way this 365 project is putting the heat on me to come up with new techniques for creating postcards--not because I have to, but because I crave the variety. This one was made by layering a drawing in black pen on top of a detail from the cover of a '90s queerzine, Severely Twisted.

Fi's #s 6-8: fish pc's for lee ellen, mandy & mom

Saturday, December 11, 2010
These are the other three in this Cavallini paper fish-shaped postcards project. (That's a mouthful!)

U.S. folks: in case you didn't know, you can send any shape of postcard for 64 cents so long as it's (a) not rigid, (b) has a width between 3 1/2" & 6 1/8", (c) has a length between 5" & 11 1/2". If it's rigid, you'll have to pay the parcel rate.

Fi's #s 4-5: fish pc's for krista & patti

Saturday, December 11, 2010
I had some Cavallini paper fish left over from the previous postcard (Fi's #3), so I turned all 5 of them into fish-shaped postcards. The front sides are pretty dull (even to a fish fanatic like me), so these are the backs.

Fi's #3: a fishy pc for richard

Saturday, December 11, 2010

As FarStarr could tell you, I'm a fishy person, too. (Pisces in both Sun & Moon.) So here are some Cavallini paper fish for my dear friend Richard Canard. And our logo--thanks for the inspiration, Sue!

Fi's #2: what're we callin' "mail art"?

Friday, December 10, 2010
I'm interested, in posting this one, to get a bit of feedback re. what're we callin' "mail art"? I'm not sayin' that this combo is devastatingly witty or anything, but here it's the combination of a commercial postcard w/ what's written on the other side that makes it (or doesn't make it?) mail art. I'm sending this to a friend who's having weight-loss surgery:

Fi's #1: sad about losin' john

Wednesday, December 08, 2010
30 years ago today we lost John Lennon. I was 25. No artist's death has meant more to me. It was just so tragic. He was happy, and he was making music.

The likeness is kinda lame, but there's feeling in it. This is the back of an envie going to the Western Cape of South Africa.

Since I'm new, I guess I'm 'sposed to introduce myself. I'm Fiona "Fi" Webster (Fi is pronounced "fee"), a 55-yr-old nonfiction writer, artist, & retired physician. I'm from Houston, Texas, but right now I live in Maryland--just outside the DC Beltway. I've been doin' mail art all my life, I guess, but only thinking of it as "mail art" =smile= since early 2009. My quiver of techniques doesn't have many arrows in it yet, but I hope to add more with time. This 365 thing will be a great excuse for experimenting!

Speakin' of experimenting, if anyone wants to try out their mail art on me, my address is on my page at IUOMA. =grin=
