#157 - Whatever
Saturday, May 07, 2011
Last night was a "Whatever!" sort of night. I got home from work and didn't feel like cooking, so I ate popcorn for dinner, and when I went in to make my daily mailart, nothing creative was happening. I picked up the bit of recycled stationery with the guy with "whatever!" music on his piano, and that worked for me. If I had had a beer to wash down the popcorn, I might have gotten more creative. I ended up in bed early.
#143 - The Case of the Missing Beer

Nancy could catch a Tofurky Thief, but she never could remember where she left her beer.
I don't know if anyone outside the US ever read teen serials (and, to be honest, I didn't, but my daughter did) but there was a series called Sweet Valley High in the 1980s that featured oh-so-wholesome twins. The series will soon be re-issued, with the twins all grown up, and they are "fully adult."
I don't think the folk who control the Nancy Drew franchise would allow her to drink. But, it would be fun ... think Nancy Drew meets The Thin Man.

This beer is my all-time favorite beer. I could drink a whole bottle of this, all by myself.
Greg and I saw Spamalot on stage a year or so ago. I enjoyed it, but I'm not as big a Monty Python fan as Greg. When Monty Python and the Holy Grail came out in movie theaters in the 70s, I got so scared by the rabbit that I had to leave.
I was supposed to post this last night, but I got carried away with making work related mailart. Sadly, when I emailed the office manager a copy of what I wanted to send to our store managers, it scared her, so I guess I will be recycling those five postcards. Some people just don't "get" mailart. I'm not a scary person. Really. .

#87 - X is four X

When I was organizing my stash for the February alphabet theme last month, I knew I wanted to do Four X beer, but I didn't have any labels, and knew I wouldn't find any locally. Pennsylvania has odd liquor laws and even if I could find a distributor for this Australian beer, I would have had to buy a case of the stuff because they don't sell six packs in this state, unless you go to a bar, and then you can buy a six pack, but you can only buy two at a time. If you want three six packs, you have to buy the first two, then take them to your car, wait a bit, and go back and buy the third. And the wine and spirit stores are even weirder.
Anyway, I decided to email Castlemaine Perkins Milton Brewery to see if they would send me a label. They did. Boy did they. I got an envelope stuffed with all sorts of labels! I've got every sort of Castlemaine label out there. I could decorate an entire room with beer labels if I wanted. I'm thrilled to pieces because beer labels are one of my favorite beverage collections, and I don't really like beer so I don't have many opportunities to collect the labels.
If I ever get to Australia, I am going to make a point of visiting the Castlemaine brewery and drinking the beer, and probably buying lots of stuff in their gift shop.

I don't much like beer, but I love the craft of beer and will occasionally try a bottle of a microbrew. Pittsburgh has a couple microbreweries, but the best is Church Brew Works, by far. It is housed in an old Catholic church and the altar is where the beer is brew. It is all quite beautiful, and though I'm not particularly fond of the food they serve, the atmosphere can't be beat.
This is going to a beer-loving friend in Netherlands, and the postcard has a surprise. If the top is slit open there are some beer labels inside, as well as a beer scorecard from last weekend's Super Bowl of Microbrews. Greg and I bought a mixed six pack from 3 Sons Dogs and Suds (I love that I can buy single microbrews at this place!) and each had three, with substantial tasting of the other's. It is the most beer we have ever had in one day. The beer that one is the one I picked JUST for the label ... Monty Python HolyGrail.
