The image and description are from a 1967 cooking pamphlet titled "Odd Vegetable Cookbook." Some of the vegetables in it would not be considered odd today ... ginger root and kale are in there ... but there are some that I don't think I've ever seen in my grocery store.
Leeks are not really odd. I make a lovely, hearty, creamy potato leek soup in the winter. It is wicked easy and I get to use my immersion blender. Anytime I can use my immersion blender is a good time.
