Making mailart every day since December 1st, 2010!
Mailart 365 has moved
Thanks for visiting Mailart 365. This site is an archive of mailart produced by artists doing mailart 365 from December 2010 to August 2016. As of July 2016, we moved to a new and more modern site at www.mailart365.com. Come on over and check us out there
Thanks! Well, first I glue down papers & junk. I like to tear the papers and mix them with harder edge cut papers when I can. I use a heavy gel medium for this first part. Then I switched over to fluid paints, using mostly transparent colors, and after the paint has dried, I will draw, stamp, stencil, drip, etc., let it dry and add another layer of medium, let it dry, more paint of a different color.....and so on. I really think the layering the medium and paints give a feeling of depth. One thing I am picky about is I always use artist quality paints and mediums and permanent inks, pens, markers and such. Even though some of the paper falls into the "found/recycled" catagory, I feel like the better pigments make a different. I also like to use the fiber rich Japanese papers, you purchase in rolls. And I do a lot of dabbing or lifting of paint. Does this make any sense?
The colours drew me to this - love them & your use of papers - this is one technique I will try - but painting.....not so sure..... you have to clean brushes etc. Sewing, you can just put it down & leave it. Know of a technique usint papers & glue to make a type of fabric you can actually stitch. On my 'to do' list.
Gorgeous! I agree about the paint quality. I used cheap craft paint until I met Michael DeMeng. I'm a convert to Golden! Every year my husband goes through the list and buys me more..yup, he's a keeper!
Thanks Chris. Really it's possible to paint without making too much of a mess. I make a bigger mess with paper. I have some sewing projects on my list as well.
Thank you too, FarStarr. Your husband definately sounds like a keeper. Mine is a keeper as well.
