This envelope was sent out to Israel; according to my postage calculator it definitely has enough so I hope it sends okay! The prompt was from Swap Bot-- to send a creative mail art piece that displayed why you create or what inspires you. I explained in detail on the 6 (!) page letter within, but here I'll give a small overview:
- Paper moon postcards have always inspired me in a way I can't quite explain-- I think I just like the 'feel' of the vintage stuff and coupling that with a love of astronomy, you can't really avoid an attraction to these lovely little photographs... So I cut the lady out of a magazine and glued her onto a foil moon! The clouds are tissue, the stars are bits of foil, and the background is layered construction paper. I also included 2 photographs inside of my personal paper moon project from 2007, where I photographed my friends next to a giant foam crescent moon :)
- Sunset over city scape-- cities are always inspiring, even if they aren't my own (DC/Baltimore). You can't avoid the diversity of culture and display of arts, and every time I take a journey through DC I come out of it inspired to write or create something. The city scape drawn here isn't any particular city though it does appear to have a fat Washington Monument and some memorials...I used new technique for the front of the envelope, never having glued potentially 'bumpy' objects onto an envelope that was to be sent out. I approached it as if it were an art journal page and pasted away, and I like what resulted! Every time I make an art envelope I think to myself: I should try a new technique. And then I do! I don't always like what comes out, but I think this is just lovely enough that my swap partner will smile. :) Or at least I hope so!
