Saw an interesting technique for printing that an artist had used with children today, so rushed home to try it out. It starts with a collograph and involves wax paper and a magazine image. I didn't think it through with any focus, had only seen the products - the teacher described it to me in a few seconds. I used the ink I happened to have leftover from another day.  My collagraph (my daughter pointed out) wasn't even glued down properly.  So the result was really poor. I added a few more layers.

What's the technique called? It's quite an eerie effect

No idea Andy. I am going back to the school in two weeks and will get one of the children to describe it and hopefully then I will be able to do it properly! What I did was made a collograph and inked it then put some greaseproof paper over the collograph and a magazine page over it and i used a pencil (they used a biro at the school, I think) and drew rapidly and somewhat randomly over arts of the photo. I moved the magazine around to create my own compostition. The kids used faces of people. Then I printed from the greaseproof paper...

Sounds really complicated. nice effect though. I've started dropping in to the PGCE Art classes at my uni to pick up some techniques. It's great fun and even looks like work :-)

OOh I envy you! My daughter is finishing up her A2 Art and she shares. Never too old to learn!
