#188 - Coffee Harvest

Labels: ,
I've never seen a coffee plantation, or how coffee is harvested, but I think the plantations are quite large and the harvesting is tedious. I love that there is a "coffee belt," the only places coffee would grow. I would love to make a real belt out of coffee beans ... or maybe coffee beans and some hemp. I don't know if coffee beans go bad ... it wouldn't be good to have them rot on my hips.
Pennsylvania is obviously not in the coffee belt. I could never have locally grown coffee. I can, however, buy coffee from distributors who have a relationship with the growers ... direct trade coffee. It is often much more expensive, but I'm willing to pay the price.

In the US there is a huge uproar about illegal immigrants, many of whom come from coffee belt regions to the south. Cries to deport are loud and far-reaching. However, most of the people who scream would never support paying more for their cup o' joe. They want cheap coffee. If the people who harvested coffee could make a decent living, they might not feel the need to risk life and limb to come to the US.

Like the card but not the coffee, I'll have a cup of tea please!

Good card and message. I just sent my husband downstairs to fetch another cup for me. :-)
