Sent to postcrossing user emsherm who contacted me for an artswap after reading about mailart365 on the postcrossing blog
This piece started as a tiger, but went horribly wrong, so I decided it looked like any old beast, and looked for an appropriately beastly quote (this one finally coming from Jean de la Fontaine, the French poet.
After writing the quote, I was still pretty sure the tiger looked awful, so I decided to brush over it's awfulness with brown swishes, in an attempt to make it look more like a bear, and lo and behold, this stroke actually made the picture look more like a tiger, hiding in undergrowth!
But ironically, I'd already sold the bears skin by the time he had turned into a tiger so to speak, so I left the quote as it was.
