How in the richest nation in the world can there be so many people homeless? What can be done to change this? What could we do with the cost of a couple of Patriot missiles to help these souls?

Suggesting we take that million + that one of those missiles cost and start a decent initiative to help the homeless. But then again, those missiles are needed elsewhere, obviously.
